Autumn Landscape Collection
Throughout autumn days I regularly go out exploring field margins, nature reserves, hedgerows and riverbanks to actively appreciate, observe and respond to nature through drawing.
I am particularly interested in using the landscape as a vehicle to explore mood and emotion through colour, texture and form. Each scene could reflect an inner landscape, from tangles of vicious Brambles and incandescent autumn foliage to serene tones of glittering water.
Using large sheets of paper and high quality pigmented chalk pastels I am able to draw with freedom and energy to capture the mood of the moment.
These drawings are then developed into paintings when back in the studio. I recreate the mark making and trying not to digress from the autentic feeling captured in the original painting.
Some of these works are influenced in part by the legacy of other British landscape artists whom I admire, in particular Lucy Jones, and David Hockney.
